Please join us to learn more about live staking, presented in partnership between 7 Lakes Alliance, Maine Forest Service (MFS), and the Kennebec County Soil & Water Conservation District (KCSWCD). This workshop is part of a broader regional series of live staking workshops hosted in partnership with multiple conservation organizations across central and coastal Maine.
Live staking is a simple and effective restoration technique that uses dormant cuttings from native trees and shrubs to help stabilize soil, reduce erosion, and improve habitat. It is mainly used along shorelines, but can also be applied in other areas where appropriate.
Jared Gregory, District Forester with the Maine Forest Service, will lead a demonstration on the techniques for harvesting and installing live stakes for conservation and erosion control. This workshop will take place on French Mountain, where participants will help address an active erosion site along a hiking trail.
Erosion control is an important part of the work Soil and Water Conservation Districts do, helping protect water quality, reduce sediment runoff, and support healthy local ecosystems. We look forward to seeing you there.
