Envirothon Spring Training
Thanks to all who attended the 2026 Spring Training event hosted by the University of Maine in Orono. The event provided an opportunity for students to build their environmental knowledge and skills through a mix of interactive and presentation-style learning rotations.
Students participating in the aquatics rotation
Participants selected four rotations from six available topics, allowing them to tailor their experience based on their interests. Rotation options included Compass/GPS Theory, Hands-on Tool Practice (Compass, GPS, Biltmore), Tree Identification, Silviculture, Wildlife, and Aquatics.
Throughout the day, students worked with natural resource professionals and educators who led each session and shared their knowledge and experience.
Students learning how to use a Biltmore stick
The event was made possible through the support of presenters from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Maine Forest Service, and the University of Maine.
Students were also provided with lunch, generously hosted by the University of Maine and Kennebec County Soil & Water Conservation District.
Events like this give students a chance to learn outside the classroom and connect with professionals working in the field.
