Winter Tree ID Workshop
Thank you to everyone who attended our Winter Tree Identification workshop and for asking such thoughtful questions throughout the day. Your engagement helped make the workshop a really valuable learning experience.
We were glad to partner with Viles Arboretum to host the event, and we appreciate Maine Forest Service district foresters Jared Gregory and Julie Davenport for sharing their time and expertise with participants.
Attendees learning winter identification features
The workshop included both indoor instruction and outdoor field practice, giving participants the opportunity to apply winter tree identification skills in real conditions. Participants worked on recognizing tree species using buds, bark, branching patterns, and other key characteristics.
Winter tree identification is especially important in our region, as it supports year-round forest management and stewardship. Workshops like this are one of the ways Soil and Water Conservation Districts work with landowners and communities to promote sustainable land use and protect natural resources.
