Farmer Resources and Opportunities
Upcoming Event and Farmer Resources
We’re sharing a couple of resources and opportunities that may be of interest to Maine farmers. These resources were recently shared by the Maine Association of Conservation Districts and Knox-Lincoln SWCD.
Maine Farms Gubernatorial Forum
The Agricultural Council of Maine (AGCOM) will host the Maine Farms Gubernatorial Forum on October 22, 2026, from 10:00 am–12:30 pm at Dandelion Spring Farm in Bowdoinham.
The forum will focus on challenges and opportunities facing Maine’s agricultural communities. All three candidates running for Maine governor have confirmed their attendance. The event will include predetermined questions on agricultural topics, as well as an opportunity for questions from the audience.

Cover Crops: Improving Soil Health, Stewardship and Profitability on the Farm
Now in its second edition, this handbook draws on decades of research and farmer experience to cover topics including how cover crops can benefit farms, building soil health, getting started with cover crops, selecting species and mixes, equipment strategies, and potential challenges.
The handbook also includes new chapters on using cover crops in grazing, horticulture, and organic systems, along with stories from 12 grain, vegetable, and livestock farmers from across the country.

Northeast Farmers Fund
The Wolfe’s Neck Center Northeast Farmers Fund provides financial and technical support to farmers working to expand regenerative production and market opportunities. Funding can support projects such as equipment and infrastructure, certification, post-harvest handling and value-added processing, and marketing, branding, packaging, and distribution improvements.
Applications will be open October 1–14, 2026, with applications considered on a rolling basis during the enrollment period.
